Creating Personal Developmental Milestones
Good afternoon, Prestige parents. It is another exciting day here at the karate school, and I am excited to get you guys started on a project that we have created a system for the new process. For the longest time, one of the biggest struggles of doing martial arts is quantifying the benefits that your child is getting. Everybody has always asked: does your child’s confidence improve? Are they better disciplined? And parents have always thought so, or say, “Yes, we’ve seen it.” but they have a hard time explaining it.
What I’ve been doing with our virtual students is we have been doing a discovery call, and during that call, I asked them to create a specific personal milestone that their child will accomplish so that they know for a fact that the program is helping their child.
Now I am bringing it to all of our students. We have been improving Life Skills years now, we just have not had a system to measure it. Now it’s going to be very specific. We have belt testing in four weeks. What is a personal milestone you want your child to have in order to test in four weeks. It can be anything. Everybody is going to have something different. For example, we have been working on honesty and accountability and in the Facebook group, you have seen some great pictures. Anay is keeping his virtual classroom clean. Rushil is watering the flowers and the plants in the house.
So think about the process. What is it that you would like your child to accomplish? I’m going to be putting together a form that I will email out that you can write it. It’s going to be on the parent forms for belt testing. You are going to write in what did your child accomplish and what would you like them to do next?
#PrestigeMilestone has become our new mission and goal. Here is how it works. Post a picture of what you want your child to accomplish for belt testing. What is the one milestone that you want them to accomplish in the next four weeks.
Something that is attainable in four weeks. For example, I want my five-year-old to sit perfectly still and watch the virtual class for 30 minutes. That’s not very realistic in a matter of weeks. That is going to take some time and is closer to a couple of years to reach.
In our parents’ group on Facebook, we want to start seeing some pictures with the hashtag prestige milestone and what your child’s going to be working on the next four weeks.
What I foresee with this is our brand new students coming in, they are going to be doing this starting at white belt and working their way up. So every two months they’re going to have a new milestone. By the time they test for their black belt, the parent’s speech is going to be phenomenal. You are going to be able to stand up and just read off all of the milestones.
So if you’ve got a couple of belt ranks, if you’ve been with us for a few years, don’t worry, we are starting you right now. You have the same opportunity.
I’m interested and excited to see what everyone decides to do as their first milestone. We are going to start quantifying the benefits of being a student with prestige martial arts and not just wait for the day that they happen.
