Life Skills School
Good evening parents, we just got done with classes and I wanted to talk to you real quick and shoot this video.
We had a great thing happen today. A gentleman walked in before classes started to ask about our program, and during the conversation, I came across a perfect explanation of what it is we do and what makes Prestige Martial Arts different. So I wanted to shoot this video to make sure that I told you as well and not just this one gentleman.
Prestige Martial Arts is a Life Skills school, and we use martial arts as our tool to teach Life Skills. What that means is there are a lot of programs all over the United States that preach or talk about teaching life skills. Some of them are martial arts, some of them are outside martial arts. Usually what happens is they do whatever thing they’re doing, (let’s say martial arts) They teach a martial arts class, they teach the blocks, the punches, and the kicks and then they sit down for a minute or two and they talk about the life skill and they say whoo-hoo, great job. We are teaching life skills.
We don’t do that. Everything we do in a class incorporates the life skill that we are working on so that the kids can begin to understand and use that life skill in their everyday life. For example, this cycle, we’re talking about discipline. So everything we did in class tonight, revolved around discipline.
What is a discipline push up?
What is a disciplined horse?
How do you show discipline when you are doing your board breaking?
How do you use discipline when you are learning your form?
So all of the techniques and things that martial arts use is then taken and put into the life skill itself. So discipline is infused throughout the entire class. Then we start having the kids incorporate it on their own. Tonight it showed me a level two disciplines horse stance. Now show me a level five. Now show me a level seven. Now show me a level 10! The kids get it, the kids understand, now they are walking out the door with an understanding of how to be better at discipline.
It’s not lip service. It’s not just a story that we tell and then hopes the kids get it or a byproduct of whatever it is we’re doing, and then when they show better discipline, we take credit for it and say, Wow, martial arts is awesome. My goal is to actually deliver it so that your child is a walking example of each of our life skills.
So if you have any questions about that, or if you wonder how it works anymore, please feel free. Give me a call. I would love to answer all of your questions so that you can understand, We are not a karate school. We are a life skills school that uses martial arts to be able to teach life skills. I couldn’t care less about a sidekick. Your child is not going to use a sidekick throughout the day, but you know what? They’re going to use their discipline every day, all the time. So that is my goal is to be able to give your child the tools to be successful in their everyday life. So again, if you have any questions, feel free to give me a call. I love talking to parents. I love answering questions and giving you an idea of how the program can help your child.
