The Happy Chemical For Your Child
Hey parents, in this video I’m going to reveal why a chemical that’s produced in our gut is the key to your child living a happy life. You may have heard the term gut feeling before, and maybe even experienced one yourself. Well, the truth is, our gut and intestines play a crucial role in keeping our brains healthy by producing important chemicals and bacteria.
Serotonin is one of those chemicals. It’s often referred to as the happy chemical due to its role in regulating mood, social behavior, memory, and even sleep. Having trouble getting one of your little ones to go to bed at night? A serotonin boost may be just what they need. How do you give your child a boost of serotonin?
Well, serotonin is released when we make decisions. Our brains reward us for making positive decisions by firing it off into our bodies. We need to give our children the opportunity to make decisions and learn how to make positive choices.
Here’s something you can try immediately. When it comes time for your child to brush their teeth, rather than telling them, “Okay, go do your teeth,” instead ask them, “Which toothbrush would you like to use?” Maybe have a selection of different colors or themes. Not only do you eliminate the opportunity for them to object, but you also give them an opportunity to make a decision and to get that valuable boost of serotonin. On top of that, they’re learning to be a decision-maker, something we all know is crucial to becoming responsible adults.
At Prestige Martial Arts, our instructors take these kinds of decision-making opportunities very, very seriously because we know just how powerful and important they are. We create opportunities for our students to make choices constantly. Little things like who they’re going to train with or how they want to approach a task. It’s a giant step forward to them becoming empowered and responsible, and willing and eager to be helpful to others.
I would like to invite you to come in and try a class for free so you can see how these skills are used and how well they help your child. Give us a call and we would be happy to answer your questions and schedule a time for you to come to class.
